You should love big data and cluster computing, especially in the context of solving large-scale, real-world problems that improve our core products. The ideal candidate will dream about distributed systems for the parallel processing of massive quantities of data, be familiar with Hadoop/Pig/HBase and MapReduce, and frequently think to themselves, “Yeah, that works for 500 MB of data; what about 500 TB?” This position is full-time and based in our main office in Gothenburg, Sweden.Working for a startup is fun and fast paced. The ideal candidate will dream about distributed systems for the parallel processing of massive quantities of data, be familiar with Hadoop/Pig/HBase and MapReduce, and frequently think to themselves, “Yeah, that works for 500 MB of data; what about 500 TB?”. Responsibilities
- Work on the scalability, resilience, and efficiency of backend components, particularly Hadoop.
- Interface with other teams to incorporate their innovations and vice versa.
- Work with data analysis to construct creative solutions for supporting Burt’s products.
- Optimize our infrastructure at both the software and hardware level.
- Focus on scaling horizontally rather than vertically.
- Debug runtime problems and understand the interactions between systems,
- Build systems, libraries, and frameworks within, around, and on top of Hadoop.
- Code using primarily Java, Scala, and Python/Ruby.
Preferred experience
- BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
- Experience with large-scale Hadoop clusters is a big plus
- Experience or interest in distributed network systems
- Knowledge developing and debugging in C/C++ and Java on *nix
- Experience developing with Python, Ruby, or PHP
- Experience with filesystems, server architectures, and distributed systems
- Deep knowledge of a compiled language
